Allow Myself to Introduce....Myself

Seeing as this is the first post on what I hope will be a long running blog, I thought it would be a good idea to write a little something about myself, my movie tastes, and generally what this blog will be about. This site will be run by both me and my brother, but I’ll allow him to introduce himself in a separate post.

First off my name is Michael DuBose, I’m in my early twenties, and for as long as I can remember I’ve loved movies. As a young boy I was fascinated by movies, especially those of the fantasy genre. Movies like Labyrinth and Star Wars took me to far away places and allowed me to meet outlandish characters. Movies were a place where anything was possible. As I got older, I continued to seek out movies with far-away locales and memorable characters. I remember being awestruck in my theater seat when I watched The Lord of Rings for the first time. I continued on this way, going to see big budget action/adventure pictures, for most of my childhood. The turning point for me came January of 2007 when I went to see Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. For the first time in my young movie-going life, I saw that a movie could be more than just sheer entertainment. Not only did the movie explore more maturue themes than what I was used to, but it was also the first foreign movie that I saw. It was a kind of springboard for me to go and search out more mature movies. I look back at that movie and see that it is the reason I now can appreciate the works of the great masters of cinema. Fellini, Godard, and Antonioni might just be names to me had it not been for Pan’s Labyrinth.

Today I just try to watch all the great movies that I can. I look up top movie lists and see which ones I have yet to see. It’s an ongoing quest that I doubt I will ever finish. There will always be more movies to see, more hidden gems to discover. But while I do love watching the very best cinema has to offer, that doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy a good big-budget movie every now and then. I'll be the first to admit that I have a soft spot for comic book movies. Overall I guess I try to be a well-rounded movie watcher, one who can salivate over the next films from Scorsese or the Coen Brothers, but also is first in line for the midnight showing of the next Batman.

Now, let me state that I am not a professional writer (obviously) and that this is my first time writing in a public forum, so I expect that my initial reviews and articles might be a bit rough. Hopefully over time they will find a consistent and clear voice. As for what kinds of posts you can expect on this site, we will try to be diverse in the variety of articles we do. Articles will range from movie news to reviews, as well our various thoughts on movies as a whole. Being that this is my first foray into blogging, if you ever have any comments or criticisms please do not hesitate to add them. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on movies on this site, thanks for reading.
